Why us

A surprising amount is possible.

Most projects don’t fail because of technology. They fail because nobody looks closely at what is actually needed - and then something gets built that looks good in the meeting and helps no one in daily work.

We work the other way round. Understand first, then sketch, then build - in short rounds, with something to show at the end of each one. And because we run what we build, we make different decisions along the way than someone who switches off the lights after sign-off.

You can see what comes of it further down: eight products of our own, live on the web, in five languages, in two app stores. All of it built with the same craft we bring to client work.

    One or two sessions with the people who do the work every day - not only with those who describe it. Afterwards, it’s on paper what this is really about.

    Clickable drafts of the key screens, plus an effort estimate with a range and the assumptions behind it. This is where we decide whether to build.

Principles

What you may hold us to.

Everything belongs to you

Source code, data, accounts, servers, documentation. You stay with us because things run well - not because you can’t leave.

We also say no

If a project won’t hold up, or someone else can do it better, we say so. A job that goes wrong costs us more than it earns.

Operations count

We run what we build. Whoever does the restore at night builds differently during the day.

Data-minimal

No Google Fonts, no trackers, no cookie wall nobody needs. Servers in Germany. For us that’s the default, not an upcharge.

Attitude

We enjoy this. It shows in the result.

Twenty-five years in, still curious about the next problem. People who like their work finish it - including the last ten per cent, where quality is decided.

About

Twenty-five years, briefly told.

TM Systems is not a start-up and doesn’t want to be one. The company has existed since 2001 - with interruptions in which we did the same work for others, and with everything we learned there.

    Founded

    TM Systems starts work: IT consulting and development in the Rhine-Main region, alongside studying business informatics in Darmstadt.

  2. 2007

    Master’s and research

    Graduation from TU Darmstadt, preceded by research at the Fraunhofer Institute IPSI on integrated information and publication systems, with a focus on multimedia security.

  3. 2007

    Project lead, Groupe Loret

    Workflow management and digital document management for a group of more than sixty companies. Processes first, software second.

  4. 2011

    Director of IT, Arapaho

    Responsible for web and mobile applications and SMS services. Portals with more than six million page views a month.

  5. 2014

    Co-founded Neoxx

    Ten years of our own company: e-commerce and business portals, including travel and business portals with more than a million page views a month.

  6. 2017

    Back to TM Systems

    Under our own name again: web and mobile applications, backend and frontend, consulting - for clients in the Rhine-Main region and beyond.

    Own products

    Tools built for our own needs become products: eight applications go live, two of them in the app stores.

    Client projects and our own products side by side - and an AI assistant that works without the cloud.

Behind us works a permanent team covering UX, frontend and backend development, DevOps and accounting.

Till Merlé

Till has been building software since 2001: workflow systems for a group of more than sixty companies, portals with millions of page views a month, payment platforms, e-commerce and apps that keep working offline. He studied business informatics at TU Darmstadt, did research at Fraunhofer, ran an IT department and co-founded a portal company.

Today he puts AI into production: assistants that work from a company’s own knowledge, self-hosted language models and agents. At TM Systems he is responsible for architecture, engineering and every project from the first conversation on.

IT Consultant · Development & Quality Assurance

Timo Merlé

Timo started at TM Systems in 2009: web development, software testing and quality assurance in C#, PHP and JavaScript. He then spent ten years as an independent investment consultant, working on strategies and portfolios and carrying the responsibility that comes with them.

Since 2023 he has been doing backend development with Laravel and TypeScript and safeguarding applications with automated tests. At TM Systems he is the client’s direct line: he takes down requirements, checks that the result is exactly what was asked for and stands in for Till on every running project.
